The Escort, Jonathan Ames, a book is a bit unlikely in the bookstores in Portugal, which usually run out of everything that falls outside the canon (either literary or commercial) like the plague. JA's book is clearly on the margins of the system, not just for being militant counter-culture, but only because it brings us characters and a story of people who lack the padding, and the anxieties of the middle class.
